Clement Silver and his accomplice, Sunday Kibechukwu
A 49-year-old man has been arrested in Delta State for faking his own kidnap so as to extort money from his wife.

The police in Delta State have arrested a 49-year-old man, Clement Silver, after he allegedly organized his own kidnap to extort the sum of N1 million from his wife, Delta News reports.

It was gathered that Silver who hails from Benue State, had connived with one Sunday Kibechukwu, to fake his own kidnap with the intention of extorting the amount from his wife so as to invest in his lotto business which has been experiencing hiccups in recent times.
Silver who lives at Odozi Street in Agbor area of the state, was retrenched from his security job with the UBA in Agbor and decided to set up the sports betting business but when the business was not booming as he had expected, he decided to kidnap himself so as to get money from his wife who is into poultry business.
He then organized with Kibechukwu to kidnap him and then called his wife to pay up the ransom before he would be released, but luck ran out on them when some members of the Agbor Gha-Ihun security outfit, a local vigilante in the community, arrested them at their hideout after someone spotted him.
During his interrogation, Silver confessed to the crime, saying he was forced to take the measure with the intention of making his wife pay the ransom so he would revive his business.
Silver explained that after he was sacked from his security work, he has been actively involved in the lottery and betting business while his wife runs a flourishing poultry business.
He confessed to hatching the plan with Kibechukwu and had the intention of paying his wife back. He said he knew his wife would not give him the money if he asked her.
His accomplice, Kibechukwu, also confessed to the crime but said Silver lured him into the deal, stating that he assured him he would return the money to the wife afterward.
Kibechukwu who hails from Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, said Silver had promised to give him N10,000 to treat an injury he sustained while working at a bakery in Boji-Boji Owa.
After the fake kidnap, Kibechukwu contacted Silver’s wife and demanded a ransom of N1 million which was to be dropped along Benin/Asaba expressway in Umunede area of the state.
The woman, however, pleaded with the suspects, stating she would pay N300,000 but they refused to take the money and were spotted at their hideout later which led to their arrest.
