According to a recent report by credible information source, AFP, over 60 women and girls have been freed from captivity in the hands of the dreaded Boko Haram sect.
A local vigilante by the name of Abbas Gava working closely with security officials confirmed that the women had successfully found refuge outside their captors. He said ”I received an alert from my colleagues … that about 63 of the abducted women and girls had made it back home”. He further said ”They took the bold step when their abductors moved out to carry out an operation.”
A high-level security source in Maiduguri, who spoke under the condition of anonymity also confirmed the escape.
There had been serious clashes between the Islamists and members of the Nigerian army late Friday after an attack by the insurgents in the town of Damboa, where more than 50 of them were killed.
Human rights activists everywhere have been lending their voice to fight against the injustice Boko Haram has been meting on Nigerians for some time now. One of them, Aisha Yesufu told members of the press this after 50 members of the Bring Back Our Girls movement were barred from entering the presidential palace in Abuja on Sunday:
“”It’s 83 days today that the girls have been abducted. We have been coming out for 68 days and nobody has really listened to us. That is why the group “decided that we should just take the protest back to the President so that he will know that we are still out there after the 68 days that we have been coming out daily”.
